Etiquette; from where it came?

Etiquette is a code of behavior that delineates expectations for social behavior according to contemporary conventional norms within a society, social class, or group. It is originally a French word for placard meaning these rules are printed or posted. In English, the French term means the label metaphorically. Etiquette is a house built with ethics, telling us what to do, whereas manners tell us what not to do. It is not all about social graces; it can also be personal ethics. The collection of norms; etiquette is the reflection of the kind, friendly, polite, and integrity manners of how to treat others. Etiquette did not develop spontaneously as manners but was originally consciously established as a set of written rules for social interaction in polite company.

The history of etiquette goes back to pre-historical times among nobles in early modern France. King Louis fourteenth (1638-1715), King of France, organized many occasions at the palace of Versailles during his time. There he printed cards to remind palace visitors of the rules of behavior as how to sit at the dining table and dress appropriately. All those were for his advantage to solidify his political position with his status as a supreme monarch. But after that, they spread all around Europe as people were impressed with the norms. It was the 17th century. Later in America, the two politicians, George Washington and Benjamin Franklin wrote codes of conduct to establish several rules in American society during their times.

At present, etiquette is a crucial part of all cultures in the world and is more relaxed than in its early ages in Europe or America.
